“A MAN WHO WANTS TO LEAD THE ORCHESTRA MUST TURN HIS BACK ON THE CROWD.”
Max Lucado, Christian author & preacher

The Army Shaped Me
Many who have never served often have a fundamental misunderstanding of military leadership: it is far more than taking or giving orders.
Leadership development is both helping others ‘be all they can be’ and opening yourself to the teaching, coaching, and mentoring by those with experience and wisdom so that you can also ‘be all you can be.’ Developing and being developed, both/and, not either/or.
You can take the boy out of the Army, but you can’t take the Army out of the boy. My time in the Army shaped me around values like mission, service, responsibility, and accountability. These words, and many more, are central to who I am.

And God Called Me by Name
I joke that I was at church the morning God called me into ministry because I had a drug problem: my wife drug me to church that day.
That journey from reluctant pew warmer to regular preacher and designer of Sunday worship was filled with formal and informal education, mentors and coaches, trials and joys.
The support I had from family, congregations and the Methodist connection shaped me in love and Grace.
